Friday prayer

Jummah (Juma) prayer time in Sri Lanka today

Jummah replaces Luhar (Dhuhr) on Fridays, and its window opens at the Luhar time for your town: between 12:01 pm and 11:55 am in Colombo through October 2026. The khutbah and jamaat time is set by each mosque and is usually announced there, so the times below are the earliest Jummah can begin, not your mosque's own time.

All times are Sri Lanka Standard Time (UTC+05:30). Luhar is the local name for Dhuhr. The table is calculated for the month this page was built and the next; for any other date, open a town's own page.

These times are calculated, not copied. We use the Muslim World League method (Fajr at 18 degrees below the horizon, Isha at 17 degrees), the Shafi'i rule for Asr, and Sri Lanka Standard Time (UTC+05:30, no daylight saving). They are a guide for the start of each prayer window. For congregational times, follow your local mosque and the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (acju.lk), which are the authority.

The basics

What Jummah replaces and who it applies to

Jummah is the Friday congregational prayer. It is prayed in the time of Luhar, and for those who attend it, it takes the place of Luhar that day. It is led in the mosque and preceded by the khutbah, the Friday sermon.

Questions of who is required to attend, and what to do when you cannot, are matters for your mosque, the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama or a qualified scholar. This site gives times, not rulings.

Questions

Jummah questions

Jummah can begin from Luhar time. In Colombo during October 2026, Luhar begins between 12:01 pm and 11:55 am on Fridays, and it moves by a few minutes at most from one Friday to the next. The khutbah and the jamaat are at a time each mosque sets itself, usually a little after that, so check the time announced at your mosque.

Jummah is prayed in the time of Luhar (Dhuhr), so its window opens at the same moment. The time a mosque actually starts is later than that, because the khutbah comes first and each mosque fixes its own schedule. The times on this page are the earliest Jummah can begin, not any mosque's own time.

In Kandy during October 2026, Luhar begins between 11:58 am and 11:52 am on Fridays, which is when the Jummah window opens. Kandy is east of Colombo, so its times run a few minutes earlier. Each mosque in Kandy sets its own khutbah and jamaat time.

This site does not give religious rulings. Ask the imam at your mosque, the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) or a qualified scholar.
